The Peace Media Framework is a new addition to the field of Peace & Conflict Studies.
It was co-developed by Kimberlye Kowalczyk (Editor of this site)
and Dominik Lehnert in 2009.
Attentive students of Peace & Conflict Studies and Peace Journalism,
we wanted to develop a framework that would make the
somewhat complex theory of Peace & Conflict Studies
more accessible to anyone using media for peacebuilding.
Peace Media follows a project-based framework,
making it more accessible to a wider base of peace practitioners,
and not limited to those of a privileged educational background.
We recognize that in the New Media era, almost anyone can be a media producer.
The Peace Media Framework also broadens the definition of media to include
unconventional forms (theater, music, graphic arts, and puppetry, to name a few).
At the heart of Peace Media are values which are central to the work of peacebuilders.
As Martin Luther King, Jr. once said,
“Peace is not merely a distant goal we seek, but a means by which we reach that goal.”
The Peace Media Framework is a complex and useful tool for media for peacebuilding,
whether it be for media production, media advocacy, or media literacy.

Hi, this is a great site. I appreciate the lucidity of the ideas. Will appreciate to read more about Media peace. Are you doing something also with the movie industry?
Thank you.
Hi Namakula ~
Thanks for your comment. We haven’t had much focus on the movie industry but I would be interested in your thoughts, if you feel like sharing.
Great site. good, useful ideas. but your framework is hard to work out. you say peace media framework took is complex. you have to simply it or it will put people off. diagram colours are garish and text is unclear, unreadable. its too colourful, cluttered. I suggest get a professional graphic artist to wok on it and simplify so it is easy to follow and we can all use and benefit from your ideas and insights.
great work, keep it up.
